The West Jefferson High School Library Media Center continues to be a hub of literacy, learning, and fun for all of its patrons. Time is also set aside to thank the hard working student volunteers for all of their efforts. The combination of good programming, engaged students, and a can-do spirit of the library volunteers makes the West Jefferson Library Media Center so special.
Students received their library cards from September’s Library Card Campaign with the Jefferson Parish Public Library. They also celebrated their intellectual freedom with this year’s Banned Book Weeks observances. The theme was: Banned Books Week Calls Out Censorship. Arts and crafts, online campaign activities, Banned and Challenged Books mugshots and Banned Book Trailers were a part of the school’s activities in honor of the week. There was even a Banned Books Week Bingo as a culminating activity.
A special reception for members of the Jobs for America’s Graduates and West Jefferson Air Force Junior ROTC volunteers was held on September 19, 2018 in the library. Special thanks goes to Mr. Shawn- the manager of the Harvey, Louisiana Raising Cane”s for donating delicious chicken fingers and all of the trimmings to our selfless volunteers.
Even though there were many special programs, classes continued to visit the library to take part in interactive lessons on topics such as Real or Fake News- How to Tell the Difference and Career Choice and Occupation Research. Ms. Norris’s class are checking out books on a weekly basis as a part of their daily sustained silent reading time in the classroom. Students are also busy with their research projects and leisure reading.
