April was National School Library Month. This year’s theme was: Because School Libraries Empower Students. National School library week was April 9th– 15th. Despite the official week occurring during West Jeff’s spring break, it did not stop the staff and students from celebrating the following week with some fun library themed activities. The week began with students completing a scavenger hunt of activities with small treats as rewards for completing the hunt.
Students were also treated to a visit from Ms. Natalie Juneau from the Jefferson Parish Public Library. She recruited students for the Summer Library Reading and volunteer programs. Students enjoyed pizza and drinks as Ms. Juneau also gave a book talk on the latest novels that are available at the public library.
Next, the students enjoyed book trailers of the 2018 Louisiana Teen Readers’ Choice titles as they ate shrimp fried rice donated by one of the school’s many business community neighbors, the China Doll restaurant of Harvey.
Finally, students participated in a library bingo where they had the opportunity to win books and other prizes. All in all, the week was a great success as students enjoyed the activities.
